MONTPEZAT-SOUS
BAUZON :
575 m. 12th c Romanesque church "Notre Dame des
Prévenchères". Franciscan calvary. 4 volcanoes : La
Gravenne, le Vestide du Pal, le Bauzon and le
Chambon. Ferrand lake. Skiing.
USCLADES
ET RIEUTORD : 1270 m. Usclades church of the
15th c. "Lauzes" (slate) rooves. 17th c Bell Listed
as a "Historic Monument". Rieutord church with its
arch bell tower. Beginning of the Loire Gorges.

LE BEAGE
: 1200 m. 19th c church housing a beautiful copper
cross repoussé and enamalled formerly belonging to
the Bonnefoy Charterhouse. Ruins of the former abbey
founded in 1156. State forest of Bonnefoy.
CROS-DE-GÉORAND
: 1029 m. Ruins of the feudal castel the name of
which was given to the village. Dam and lakes –
Lapalisse, Gage-. Lava flow.
SAINT-CIRGUES
EN-MONTAGNE : 1044 m. 12th c romanesque
church with its arch bell tower. Ruins of the
Eperviers castle. Old houses.
MAZAN
L'ABBAYE : 1136 m. Ruins of the cistercian
abbey founded in 1119 by Amédée D'Hauterives. Here
you can find a ruined 12th c church, a former
cloister and 14th c abbatial buildings. The abbey
was vandalized in the 14th c then reconstructed and
abandonned in the 18th c. State forest of more than
1 200 acres.
LE ROUX
: 830 m. On the Fontaulière banks, this village is
renowned for its tunnel –3330m long- joining the
valley in direction of Montpezat. It allows the
drivers to avoid a difficult pass in winter.
